Do Mates Really Understand?

When you try telling your mates you're not coming out cos you're trying to stay off the coke, or perhaps you don't even give them the real reason why, it can be hard getting the message through to them. They'll keep on pestering until you finally give in.
When you've been using coke for sometime and it's been a part of your lifestyle, it can take quite a while for other people to accept you're wanting to change. For them it might mean they are losing a party animal, the party starter, life of the party and so their nights aren't going to be as much fun. But at the end of the day, you have to put yourself first.
Perhaps your friends don't even know the extent of your problem. They might be able to call it a night when the cokes gone but it's a different story for you. You end up staying up for days. It was funny at first, people thought you were mental, hardcore but as the years have gone on, its startded to takes it toll on your mental health, relationships and finances. Some mates have stopped altogether. It was easy for them. But here your still are.
Everyone has different motivational factors and reasons for stopping. Depending on how much you're using, cravings can be an issue. Reasons for using vary from person to person which is why some people find it easier to stop than others.
